nothing will keep
us young you know
not young men or
women who spin
their youth on
cool playing sounds.
we are what we
are what we never
think we are.
no more wild geo
graphies of the
flesh. echoes. that
we move in tune
to slower smells.
it is a hard thing
to admit that
sometimes after midnight
i am tired
of it all.

AnalysisThis poem simply explains that nothing lasts forever.
We all get older, we all get tired, we all are human. Nothing will stop our growth because time waits for no one. Dating a younger person does not make YOU young. On the second stanza when she said "No more wild geographies of the flesh. echoes. that we move in tune to slower smells" Wild geographies is a metaphor for different races and that we all move into elders and slower paces. "It is a hard to admit that sometimes after midknight I am tired of it all" She is saying that she finds herself not being able to do the things she could do when she was younger like stay up late and go out all night" This poem is simply saying that growth is inevitable and that although it may be hard to deal with there is nothing we do about it. |
